Nigella’s Chocolate Chip Muffins

Believe me, I have no intention of turning this into a video blog- but when I came across Nigella’s Chocolate Chip Muffin recipe on YouTube, I couldn’t resist embedding it here. I love how messy Nigella is in the kitchen, because I’m the same way (see how she drips batter all over the pan while scooping).

If that isn’t super sarap, I don’t know what is.

Flowers of Salt

Fleur de Sel

My aunt and cousin recently arrived from France, and this is one of the things they brought us: Fleur de Sel De Camargue French Sea Salt. Isn’t it lovely? The container is sealed with a cork, like fine wine, and “signed” on top by the Maitre Salier (Master Salter) who picked these salt flowers on the surface of brine fields in France.

We’ve yet to try it (waiting for our Maldon to run out), but I’m already swooning from all the possibilities. Just think: grilled steaks. A juicy tomato salad. A single soft-boiled egg. All sprinkled with Fleur de Sel. Mmm.

Prince of Jaipur at Fastbytes

The Prince of Jaipur is one of our favourite local restaurants- but making the trek to their main branch at the Fort is something we just can’t do on a regular basis. Which is why I was so excited to read that they had opened a branch right here in Alabang.

The space is small (they have a second floor, but we haven’t seen it yet), so we’ve only taken food home so far- but oh, the food! Their Lamb and Chicken shawarmas are some of the best I’ve ever had (and I’m a shawarma lover), their Roti Chanai is sweet and chewy and delicious, their Dahl is a winner, and their Pappadums are worth every cent of the P25 they cost.

Roti Chanai

Prince of Jaipur is at Fastbytes in Northgate, Alabang. To get there, make your way towards Bellevue Hotel, then towards the McDonald’s there. Fastbytes is right across. Their telephone number is 728-9458 or 728-9459.

My Celebrity Chef Match

Your celebrity chef match is Julia Child

Butter, anyone? She may look down upon anyone who sacrifices fat for diet, but Julia Child is the grand dame of French cooking — for butter or for worse. Like Julia, you tend to enjoy the rewards of classic cooking and traditional life.

Maybe you don’t whip up lobster thermidor on a nightly basis, but when you do ramp up for a special meal — entertaining friends, for example — you tend to pull out all the stops. Experience has proven that “from scratch” does tend to make a difference, so if time allows, we’d guess you like to spoil your guests with everything from fresh fish to homemade pie. That’s not to say you’re not up for some shortcuts in the kitchen. It’s just that when it comes down to it, you like to do things right, and don’t mind taking the time to make sure that happens.
