Finally, an update. And Cheeseburger Pizza.

You know how people who’ve neglected their blogs for a long time invariably apologize that “things got really busy” for them?

Yes, I’m back. And things did get really busy for me. To catch you up:

My little online bakeshop has been doing very well. It’s gotten to the point where I sometimes have to decline orders. This makes me a little sad, but I’d rather not overwhelm myself with so many orders that quality suffers (I bake everything myself).
We quietly launched the Food Bloggers Network, a project I’m obviously extremely passionate about.
I’ve been spending a lot of time on Twitter. I have two accounts: a personal one and one for my bakeshop.
I now blog regularly about several things: web development over at Devlounge, recipes at bFeedMe, and all things Apple at Apple Gazette. I also create and post video tutorials at Tubetorial.

What a busy bee I’ve been. Of course, with all of this going on, sometimes my husband and I don’t have time to prep and cook meals for ourselves. Which is how I discovered what’s become one of my favorite take-out dishes ever:

The truth is, the thought of Cheeseburger Pizza never appealed to me. Shredded lettuce? Burger sauce? But the other day, already in a bad mood from the heat and hunger pangs, I grudgingly ordered a Cheeseburger Pizza from Shakey’s, requesting a “New York Hand-Tossed” crust.

I loved it. The lettuce, the sweetish sauce, the cheese… all of them worked surprisingly well atop a chewy crispy pizza with lots of mozzarella.

Prince of Jaipur at Fastbytes

The Prince of Jaipur is one of our favourite local restaurants- but making the trek to their main branch at the Fort is something we just can’t do on a regular basis. Which is why I was so excited to read that they had opened a branch right here in Alabang.

The space is small (they have a second floor, but we haven’t seen it yet), so we’ve only taken food home so far- but oh, the food! Their Lamb and Chicken shawarmas are some of the best I’ve ever had (and I’m a shawarma lover), their Roti Chanai is sweet and chewy and delicious, their Dahl is a winner, and their Pappadums are worth every cent of the P25 they cost.

Prince of Jaipur is at Fastbytes in Northgate, Alabang. To get there, make your way towards Bellevue Hotel, then towards the McDonald’s there. Fastbytes is right across. Their telephone number is 728-9458 or 728-9459.

Disappointing Dessert

Recently, Louie and I decided we wanted something sweet and gooey- and thought that a slice of TGIFriday’s Chocolate Pecan Cluster would satisfy.

What a complete disappointment. It didn’t even come close to the photo on their menu- it was small, narrow and flat, and the accompanying cup of caramel was strangely… grainy.

Ordered as take-out from TGIFriday’s in Alabang Town Center.

Salad Nights

In an effort to make up for all the premium ice cream we’ve been treating ourselves to lately, the husband and I have been sticking to salads only at night.

Because we didn’t feel like preparing anything ourselves tonight, we ordered in- and went with California Pizza Kitchen’s bestselling Original BBQ Chicken Chopped Salad, a favourite of ours.

The guy who took my order over the phone was nice and all, but I’ve got a few bones to pick with them:

We requested extra cilantro. There must have been a misunderstanding between order and kitchen, because what they gave me was no avocado instead of extra cilantro. Grrr.

And then there was the price. Our bill shows that: one full-sized BBQ Chicken Salad (with no avocado!) cost P395, and half-sized Waldorf Salad (which was particularly mediocre) cost P425. Hmm. This, plus Value Added Tax, Food Tax, and Packaging Charge, meant that we spent a total of P1005.81 for one salad, and one half-a-salad… really not worth it.
